Chia is a flowering plant native to southern Mexico and Central America. It was cultivated by the Mayan and Aztecs and valued so highly it was even used as a currency. Aztec warriors and runners are said to have sustained themselves on just a tablespoon of Chia seeds a day. 

(By now you might be thinking, "Wait, is that Chia as in those pet plant things?" Yep,those are Chia sprouts.) 

The organic Chia flour we use is ground from Chia seeds, one of the world’s wonder foods. Chia seeds have more calcium than whole milk, more iron than raw spinach and more magnesium than broccoli. Chia is also packed protein. It’s loaded with healthy Omega-3 and antioxidants that can help prevent heart attacks and strokes and help lower blood pressure. 

And as far as we know, DogStars are the only organic dog treats made with organic Chia flour. The only ones on earth, or the galaxy for the matter!
